Fold It, Roll It, Store It!

Have you ever tried to put a car or truck cover on by yourself?  If it has been folded properly, it shouldn’t be a problem.  On the other hand, if the cover wasn’t folded, rolled and stored in a systematic way, it may lead to some frustration when it is time to put it back on.

I am speaking from experience.  This past weekend we washed our truck and cleaned the interior before driving it into the garage. After we pulled it in, I decided to put the cover on to keep it clean until we want to drive it again.  Well, when we removed the cover the last time, we must have been in a hurry, because it was rolled but not so that I could easily tell the front from the back.  It hadn’t been folded before it was rolled, so it was hard to handle.

At this point, you are probably wondering why it was such a big deal.  Well, the cover I was trying to put on is the largest size SUV cover – we purchased this for our truck with a cab high cap.  It works beautifully, but if not properly removed, it is very bulky and cumbersome.  It seems that the cover had to be unrolled from back to front, when it would have been easier to go from the front to the back.  Needless to say, it took me longer to put this cover on due to the fact that it had not been properly folded, rolled and stored.

So now for instructions on the proper way to remove this type of cover.  First, fold the cover from each side towards the center.  Not only will this make the cover more manageable to handle when rolled, it also keeps the dusty side folded to the inside.  Next, start rolling the folded cover from the back towards the front.  This way, when you are ready to put the cover back on, you will unroll from the front to the back, and you can hook the elastic hem under the front bumper as you work the cover back.  Be sure you roll your cover the same way every time, so you know the front from the back.  Finally, store your cover in the provided storage bag.

Remember these three steps – fold it, roll it and store it – these steps are the ones I will personally follow from now on whenever the cover is removed from our truck.

Prevent Vehicle Damage from Hail

In many areas, including Northeastern Pennsylvania where we live, this is the time of the year when thunderstorms are frequent and are sometimes accompanied by hail.  If the hailstones are small, they don’t pose a threat to your vehicle, but occasionally, the hailstones are large enough to do major damage.

Such was the case in New York state where my sister lives.  She had purchased a new car in January following an accident which totaled her other vehicle.  She doesn’t have a garage, so her car is unprotected from the elements.  Two weeks ago, there was a severe thunderstorm with hail larger than silver dollars.  My sister’s car was pelted with these large hailstones, and as a result, she now has over $8000 in damage.  She has to have her car’s hood, roof and trunk lid replaced.  She said that she wishes she had purchased one of our deluxe car covers.  With four layers of fabric, the cover would have protected her new car from the hailstone damage.

Once the repairs have been done, my sister plans to keep her car covered when she isn’t using it.  What an expensive lesson to learn – thank goodness for car insurance!

Protect Your Car from Theft

It may sound silly to say that a car cover can protect your car against theft, but when you really stop and think about it, it does make sense.  A would-be thief looking to steal a car is concerned about a quick get-away.  If he has to take the time to remove a cover from your car, he will probably choose a car that isn’t covered.  In addition, if you have secured your cover with a cover cable lock, it makes it even more complicated for a thief to remove the cover if he does try.

Not only will a car cover deter thieves from stealing your car, it will keep your valuable belongings out of sight of prying eyes.  The stereo equipment and navigation equipment in your car along with laptop computers, cell phones and other valuable items may be enticing to a thief looking to make some extra money.  If these things are concealed, the chances are alot slimmer that your car will be a target for these culprits.

Take advantage of all of the positive benefits of using a quality car cover, truck cover, SUV cover, van cover or Hummer cover from snjcarcovers.com.

Protect your Car from Tree Sap, Birds, Nuts and Berries

Protect your Vehicle

Protect your Vehicle

Are you tempted on a hot summer day to park your car under that great shade tree?  Have you thought about the possible hazards to your automotive finish?

First of all, there is the issue of tree sap.  Even small amounts of tree sap can cause permanent color changes in your car’s paint and can etch the paint.  Some tree sap is difficult to wash off of your car and might require a rubbing compound.  Pinesap is especially harmful since it contains turpentine, and we all know what effect turpentine has on paint!

The next issue to address is the things that may fall from the tree where  you are parked.  Birds look for the shade and protection of that same tree, and bird droppings are no friend of your automotive finish.  If the tree that you are parked under is a nut tree, for instance a walnut tree, nuts falling from this tree can cause small chips in your car’s paint, allowing moistue to creep in and start its dirty work.  The tree may also have some kind of seeds or berries which can stain and/or etch the paint.  Last, but not least, are the branches that may fall from the tree.  Depending on the size of the branch, you may incur just moderate damage or more extensive damage.

The shade from that tree may look very inviting, but you could be exposing your automotive finish to multiple hazards.  Check out our selection of quality car covers, truck covers, van covers and SUV covers at snjcarcovers.com to protect your vehicle from these natural elements.

Protect Your Car from Winter’s Harsh Elements

If you live in an area where you experience four seasons with extreme weather conditions, winter can bring some pretty harsh conditions.  This is the season where you need to really be concerned about your vehicle’s finish.  Once the weather turns cold, you are presented with a whole new set of hazards that can harm your automotive finish.  If the tough weather conditions with the moisture from sleet, snow and ice aren’t bad enough, there are the added things that we use to deal with these elements, namely two corrosive materials that are associated with snow and ice – salt and calcium.  Salt and calcium, which allow us to drive more safely in hazardous conditions, also accelerate the corrosive process by slowing down drying times and causing a chemical reaction with the metal body of your car.  For this reason, it is important to wash these materials off of your car as soon and as often as possible through those winter months.

To address the issue of the frequent presence of moisture with sleet, snow and ice storms, you could keep your vehicle covered with a quality car cover or truck cover or other type of cover as needed.  When you clean these winter weather elements from your vehicle with a brush or broom, you cause many tiny scratches in the finish.  Over time, these scratches can deepen and cause real problems with the paint.  If you keep your vehicle covered, there is no need to brush and scrape!  You will find several styles of covers for all types of vehicles at snjcarcovers.com.

In summary, winter can be very hard on your vehicle, but with a little extra attention given to the protection of your automotive finish, the payback will be well worth the effort!

Protect your Car from UV Rays

Posted on February 8, 2009 by SNJ Car Covers.

Parking your car in the sun is a necessity for some people, whether it is at home or at work.  The sun is the number one environmental enemy of your car’s paint finish.  Ultraviolet (UV) rays and radient energy (Heat) have a pronounced effect on automotive finishes.  Your car’s paint color can not only fade, but is likely to fade unevenly over time.  If you park in the same spot every day, the same side of your vehicle is always facing south.  The UV rays can slowly erode sections of that beautiful finish.

One way to protect your car’s paint is to apply a coat of high grade wax at least once a year.  This will provide a reflective shine barrier between the paint finish and the elements such as UV rays.  An even better means of protecting your automotive finish is with a quality car cover, truck cover, SUV cover, station wagon cover or van cover from Budge Industries.  These covers are available in various fabrics and sizes to fit all makes and models of vehicles.

Your car’s interior also suffers from prolonged exposure to the sun.  The heat that builds up on the inside of your car can dry out and deteriorate vinyl, leather, plastic and rubber.  It bakes and breaks down foam padding and adhesives, as well as harming audio components.  This gets worse every year with the diminishing ozone layer.

A Budge Industries car cover, truck cover or cover for another type of vehicle will also protect your automotive interior and keep it looking showroom new for years to come.

Protect your Car From Acid Rain

Posted on February 2, 2009 by SNJ Car Covers.
Categories: Car Covers.

What is acid rain?  It actually would be more accurate to call it “acid precipitation” since fog, dew, sleet and snow can be acidic as well as rain.  This acid precipitation occurs when sulfur and nitrogen oxides are released into the environment by natural sources such as volcanoes and decaying vegetation, and man-made sources, mainly fossil fuel combustion.  Once they are in the atmosphere , these particles are converted to secondary pollutants – nitric acid and sulfuric acid.  If our cars are left outside in areas where the precipitation is higher in acidity, over time it can damage the car’s finish.  A great solution is to keep your car covered with a good quality cover.  Check out the full line of Budge Industries vehicle covers at our online store : http://www.snjcarcovers.com/ where you will find car covers, truck covers, SUV covers, van covers, boat covers, motorcycle covers and several smaller vehicle covers.  Check it out!
